Marching Band
is the most musically advanced instrumental organization, its members having successfully displayed an exceptionally high degree of proficiency and met the instrumentation requirements as mandated by the directors. These students also demonstrate a good attitude and willingness to work towards successfully conforming to the music department's philosophy. This group rehearses as a part of the daily curriculum at Memorial Jr. H. S. In addition to its winter and spring music concert appearances, the membership participates in state solo and ensemble contests as well as collectively in organization competition. During parade seasons, the Concert Band appears as a part of the Marching Band.

The First Cadet Band rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 7:30 am.
Cadet Band meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings weekly from 7:30 - 8:30am in the band room.
Students should report to the band room by 7:15 am. Please enter the building at door 19 on the east side of the building. The school will be open by 7:05 am.

Students should report to the band room by 7:15 am. Please enter the building at door 19 on the east side of the building. Please drop your child off in the circle drive in front of the band room and walk to door 19 on the east side of the building. Do not use Ward Street for safety reasons. The school will be open by 7:05 am.
The January 2012 Beginning Band Demonstration Concert was a great success! Thank you to all the parents, students, private lesson teachers, administrators, faculty members and staff members for helping to make this concert run so smoothly. The following students performed a solo at the demonstration concert: Cornelius Muwanga on Baritone, Miguel Alvarado on Clarinet, Phoebe Nicpon on Clarinet, Olivia Powell on Clarinet, Nancy Campuzano on Flute, Dinah Landrum on Flute, Neomi Heredia on Clarinet, Chelsea Henning on Bells, Makayla Tubbs on Clarinet, Faithful Ojelabi on French Horn, David Denhartog on Trombone, Jaila Carr on French Horn, Charlie Gray on Clarinet, Nora Mortimer on Flute, Jasmine Dochee on Flute, Amir Abu-Ghazaleh on Trombone, Briyaun Stewart on Flute, Natalie Mseeh on Flute, Issis Yadron on Clarinet, Nick Carrillo on Tuba, Logan Rosinia-Cowan on Trombone. A special thank you to all the soloist for a job well done!

Beginning Band Registration took place on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Memorial Jr. High School Gym from 5:00-9:00pm. The open house type of registration provided ample time for the director to talk with all interested parents. At that time the director explained the band program as to time and dates and enrolled your child for private lessons.
Registration for the Beginning Band closed for 2011-12 school year on Saturday, October 8, 2011. This is the same day we start the introductions to each instrument. Please continue to follow the schedule given to you at registration. Registration will open again for all 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grade students in September of 2012.
This ensemble is considered an extra curricular activity in the music department. Students audition in the fall for a place in this twenty piece ensemble. You must be a member of the District #158 Music Department to be eligible to participate in the auditions. Students in the Cadet Band, Concert Band and Concert Choir are allowed to audition.
Auditions for Jazz Band will take place on Thursday, September 8, 2011. Open the following file to see the Jazz Band roster.

The Memorial Jr. High Jazz Band will perform at the Christmas Concert, Spring Concert as well as District and State Competition. They will also perform for community events and jazz festivals in the area.

The Concert Choir and the Concert Band make up the Marching Mustang Band, as the Concert Choir students compose the color guard of this marching unit.
The Marching Mustang Band performs each year for the Lansing Halloween Parade in October and the annual Good Neighbor Day Parade held in Lansing the first weekend in May.

This ensemble has also participated in national contest festivals and has performed downtown Disney in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida in April of 2007. The Marching Band performed again at Walt Disney World Epcot Center in April of 2009 and again in April of 2011.
