Extra Help Activities

Extra Help Activity 1--Save The Ocean

The oceans have lots of garbage and pollutants in them.  If we continue to pollute our oceans, we will be ruining the Earth for people in the future.  To stop this from happening, you, with your group, will be making an advertisement to motivate people to clean up the ocean and to stop polluting the ocean.

Each group must make a creative advertisement that (1) asks people to stop polluting and (2) asks people to volunteer to clean up the ocean and its beaches.

Your group may use any of the following type of advertising:

  1. Make a bulletin board using (1) cut out examples of ocean pollution, (2) suggestions to stop the pollution, (3) a list of the side effects of pollution, (4), and suggestions to help clean up the pollution.
  2. Perform a skit in front of the class with props and costumes that focuses in on the side effects of pollution.  After the skit, ask your fellow students to help join you in the fight to stop polluting our oceans.
  3. Make a professional looking pamphlet that explains why people should stop polluting the oceans and asks them to help clean up the oceans.  After your group makes the pamphlet, we can make copies and hand them out at a local grocery store on a Saturday.
  4. Create a Power Point presentation that focuses in on the side effects of pollution.  You should have backgrounds, animation, and a plea to ask your fellow students to join you in the fight to stop polluting our oceans.

Extra Help Activity 5--Haikus or not?

Look at these poems.  Can you tell which ones are haikus and which ones are not?  If they are haikus, tell what makes it one.  If they are not haikus, tell what makes the poem not a haiku.
