Problem Statement:

How do you create another ocean ecosystem somewhere else?

Learning Challenge:

Your teacher received an email this morning from the President of the United States.  The email stated that the President is contacting some fourth grade classrooms across the country asking for their help.  He contacted your teacher to tell her that he wants his/her class to relocate an ocean that has recently been ruined because the Panama Canal has malfunctioned.  Five super tankers spilled billions of gallons of crude oil into the ocean.  Some of the animals are now extinct that once thrived.  Others are mutating to adapt to the oil in the water. 

To save all the ocean species, the President is challenging you to create a new ocean somewhere else in the world.  To undergo this challenge, you will be provided with many different activities in which you will learn about what an ocean is, what lives in it as well as what an oil spill actually does to the ocean.  The President will be contacting your teacher again to find out about the progress of your challenge.  When your challenge is completed, your teacher will be sending your ideas to him.
