5TH GRADE COMMUNITY ROUNDBALL TOURNAMENT
AT MEMORIAL JR HIGH SCHOOL
ALL PROFITS GO TO
From February 8th through the 13th, we ask you to please come support our Lansing Roundball Charity Basketball Tournament. This is the ninth year of the event: we have collected over $29,000 in the last eight years for local Lansing charitable organizations.
The tournament consists of several 5th grade schools: Coolidge, Reavis, Oak Glen, St. Ann, Heritage, and Lansing Christian. The boys’ teams play the games and the girls shoot at halftime in an individual Hot Shot competition.
The tournament is held at Memorial Jr. High with support from District 158, Mayor Patty Eidam, Lansing service clubs, and many of Lansing’s businesses. The PTAs help at the door and the front gate, while volunteers work the scorer’s table. The Thornton Fractional South Pep Club assists with the Hot Shot contest, and the Lansing Fire Department and Lansing Police help with security.
In addition to basketball, a food drive contest is being held in all the schools leading up to the start of the tournament, and a spirit contest is also conducted to determine the school with the most positive and energetic fan base.
On Championship Night, Memorial’s Band and Choir will play the national anthem before the ceremony starts, and the National Junior Honor Society will be on hand to collect canned goods at the door instead of charging spectators for admission—this food will be donated to the Lansing Food Pantry.
